Brief History Of Aliabad Parish

About three decades ago, a few Catholic families from Nalgonda District migrated to Aliabad, a small Village in Shameerpet Mandal. Aliabad was a Sub-station of Basuregadi Parish, which was under the Pastoral care of Claretian Fathers. This Sub-station was started in 1984, primarily to respond to the various religious, spiritual needs of the 65 migrated Catholic families, working in various Cotton Mills at Aliabad. In 2006, Aliabad was bifurcated from Basuregadi Parish and raised to the status of a Quasi-Parish and the Pastoral care of it was entrusted to Missionaries of Compassion (MC), A Pious Association canonically established in the Archdiocese of Hyderabad at Aliabad.

The Missionaries of Compassion (MC) took initiative to construct a new Shrine Church there. On 21st June, 2006 the foundation stone for the new Church was blessed and laid by Most Rev. Mulagada John, Bishop of Eluru in the presence of Most Rev. Marampudi Joji, Archbishop of Hyderabad, Most Rev. Gorantla Johannes, Bishop of Kurnool, Most Rev. Govindu Joji, Bishop of Nalgonda and Fr. Jose Kaimlett MC, the founder of Missionaries of Compassion. The new Shrine Church was inaugurated and consecrated on 09 November, 2008 by Most Rev. Delio Lucarelli,Bishop of Reiti, Italy and a few other Bishops of India and Tanzania. The first Priest In-charge of Quasi-Parish was Fr. Celestine Falluvattankuzhy, MC (2006-2007). During the tenure of Fr. Ignatius Yeruva, MC as Priest In-charge from 2009-2015, he took intitiatves to spiritually develop the Shrine. The Feast day of Shrine of Our Lady of Grace is celebrated on 2nd Sunday of November of every year. It has a Sub-station namely Anand Nagar Colony dedicated to St. Thomas. There are 60 families in this Parish out of which 45 families are in Sub-station.

In the Archdiocesan Consulters’ Body Meetings held on 12th June, 2020 and 14th July, 2020 a point was discussed with regard to raising Aliabad Quasi-Parish to the status of a Parish and after due discussion the Archdiocesan Consulters’ Body in the light of Canon Law recommended that this matter be discussed further in the Priests’ Senate Body Meeting. Accordingly in the Priests’ Senate Body Meeting held on 06th August, 2020 it was discussed and after due discussion recommended the same. This recommendation of the Priests’ Senate Body was further discussed in the Archdiocesan Consulters’ Body Meeting held on 31st August, 2020 and after due discussion the Archdiocesan Consulters’ Body resolved to raise Aliabad Quasi-Parish to the status of a Parish with effect from 08th December, 2020 on the Solemnity of Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
