Brief History of Cherlapally Parish

Cherlapally was a Sub-station of Arul Colony Parish. When Moula-Ali, which was a Sub-station of Shanthinagar Parish was bifurcated and declared as an independent Parish on 23rd August, 2009, Cherlapally was attached to it as a Sub-station. Cherlapally was bifurcated from Moula-Ali Parish and was raised to the status of a Parish on 4th May, 2013 by Archbishop Thumma Bala. This Parish is dedicated to St. Joseph, the worker. It is about 23 kms away from the city of Secunderabad, from the Archdiocese Head- Quarters. There were about 45-50 Catholic families, when it was bifurcated from Moula-Ali Parish. Now at present there are about 100 traditional Catholic families existing in this Parish. Most of them have migrated from Nalgonda, Warangal, Guntur and some from Rayalaseema area and settled there. Among these 100 Catholic families, some others came from other states and are working in surrounding small scale industries. Most of these Catholic families are uneducated, daily labourers in those Companies. Very few of them are educated and having permanent jobs in those Companies. Cherlapally Parish locality comes under Kapra Municipality in the Medchal District. The Jurisdiction of the Parish is divided into 7-9 Zones. Fr. Madanu Francis Showry was appointed in 2013 as the first Parish Priest. He took initiative to construct new St. Joseph’s Church there. He successfully completed the construction work. The New St. Joseph’s Church at Cherlapally Parish was blessed and inaugurated on 2nd June, 2018 by Archbishop Thumma Bala.

Men & Women Religious Congregations

Daughters Of Divine Zeal (FDZ) : It is a Pontifical Congregation belonging to the Latin Rite. After obtaining the necessary permission from Archbishop Thumma Bala their Sisters established a Community in the Archdiocese of Hyderabad at Cherlapally Parish, Medchal District. At the invitation of OIC Fathers of Malankara Rite who runs Bethany Karunalaya at Cherlapally, Daughters of Divine Zeal Sisters are helping OIC Fathers of Malankara Rite in serving the abandoned & poor children at Bethany Karunalaya, Cherlapally. Sisters entered into a Memorandum of Understanding in September 2019 with OIC Fathers in this regard.
